F.U.N Show Moves To The West Concourse

The gigantic January show is rapidly approaching! Do you know where to go once you arrive in Orlando at the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) at 9800 International Drive?

The FUN show is moving from our previous location in the North-South Building back to our “old” Hall E in the West Building. This is where we were in the 1990’s and early 2000’s, for those of you who have been loyal FUN supporters since that time. As you face the West Building, Hall E is to your far right and is beside the Rosen Plaza Hotel. And, speaking of the Rosen Plaza Hotel, it is now connected to the OCCC with a covered walkway, just as the Rosen Centre is also connected. The Hyatt is convenient, as well, across the street. The Hyatt was formerly the Peabody, but was bought and the name changed as of October 1 of this year. I hope this information will help you navigate once you arrive in the area.

Hotel Reservations

Have you made your hotel reservations? If not, please do so ASAP. Some of our initial room blocks sold out early, and we were able to secure more rooms. However, the Surf Expo is also in town and there is healthy competition for hotel rooms during the FUN show dates. You can make hotel reservations online via FUN’s website, or you can make them via telephone by calling 1-800-282-6632.

This is a Baltimore housing bureau, but they do service the FUN shows, too! Beware of anyone who calls you on the phone to solicit a hotel reservation! There are people calling from the Las Vegas area who seem to have acquired a thorough list of coin show dealers. They offer rooms at reduced rates, but they generally do not have any room blocks at any hotel and you do not want to do business with them. Never give them a credit card number. To make matters more confusing, one of the callers this year says her name is “Cindy.” It’s not me!

Parking Fees & Shuttle Buses

The convention will be held at the Orange County Convention Center West Concourse

Orange County Convention Center

Orlando, FL 32819

Click For Driving Directions Hall E, West Concourse

Turn off of International Drive onto either Exhibit Drive or Convention Way (between the Rosen Hotels and the West Building) to access the parking lot.

Parking Please note that the normal parking rate is $15/day, but FUN has negotiated a discounted rate of $9/day. Be sure to tell them at the parking gate entrance that you are attending the FUN convention and pay the reduced rate. When the parking lot behind the West Building is full, cars will be sent to the North-South Building parking lot.

Free Shuttle Service FUN is running free shuttle bus service from both parking lots to the entrance of the show for your convenience. You can also catch the shuttle back to your car when you depart for the day.

If you park behind the West Building and prefer to walk, you can enter the back of the building behind Hall C, which is in the center of the building. Ride the escalator up to the second level, walk down the hallway alongside Hall C, then come back down to the first level via the escalator. Follow the signs to Hall E.

After the 2012 Summer FUN convention we posed the question “If we build it, will you come” and the answer is YES! F.U.N’s Director of Youth Activities Tony Bonaro & I THANK YOU for participating in activities at the "official" Coins & Kids & FOTO FUN booth(s).

Okay, so maybe I was having a “Field Of Dreams” flashback moment. But like the character of Ray Kinsella and his family who built a baseball diamond in Iowa, it was wonderful to just throw caution to the wind and create an even bigger & better photo station where F.U.N Convention guests could take a moment from strolling the bourse floor to glam it up and embrace the bling

Well, I think Every Picture Tells A Story! Our FOTO FUN Station was a hit and a fabulous time was had by all. Just look at some of these pictures. Hope to see YOU Strike A Pose at the FOTO F.U.N booth in January!

Rarities worth millions of dollars from the Edward C. Rochette Money Museum will be on display in Orlando, Fla., Jan. 9-11, 2014, when the American Numismatic Association Road Show makes its debut at the annual FUN Show.

“The ANA’s Museum Showcase is a wonderful addition to our event,” said FUN Convention Coordinator Cindy Wibker. “FUN is a proud ANA member organization, and we’re thrilled to add these amazing exhibits to our bourse.”

FUN donated $5,000 to the ANA Road Show in support of its educational mission.

“We’d like to thank Florida United Numismatists for their generous contribution to our educational mission,” said ANA Executive Director Kimberly Kiick. “The FUN Show will be a fantastic opportunity for collectors to see some of the ANA’s most priceless specimens.”

On display at the 59th annual FUN Show are some of the ANA’s most well-known numismatic treasures: the 1913 Liberty Head nickel, the 1804 Silver Dollar and the Bebee Silver Certificates. The exhibit will also include the ever-popular Famous Errors collection. The ANA Road Show can be found at booth 221.

“The Money Museum is excited to bring the 1804 Dollar and 1913 Nickel to the FUN show for the first time,” said Douglas Mudd, the curator for the Money Museum. “With the selection of rare silver certificates from the Bebee collection as well as the exhibit on Famous Errors, we should have something that every collector can enjoy.”
